Winter’s Bone (100 min)
What a story of a young yet very mature girl who has both the brawn and the brains to carry her entire dysfunctional family, and who will literally do anything to protect her little brother and sister while her mother seems to be incapable of such a thing. Even if it means taking a few beatings and death threats to find her missing meth addict of a father, who is in bail trouble and must be found dead or alive if they want to keep their land as well as their house. So she goes on a desperate search for him with no hesitation and no looking back. She will not stop until he is found and accounted for, and trust me, she goes through hell and back to find him. This darkly atmospheric, inspirational story takes place properly in a part of Missouri that you would look at and not really expect anyone to live there including yourself. It is literally in the middle of nowhere with not much to do. Seems like a perfect setting where you could cook up some meth which seems to be one of the many overlying issues here, and believe me there are many. Especially with the other characters that reside in this incredibly shady landscape. The shady setting is the primary reason why this film has such a dark atmospheric disposition to it, and it also helps to keep our interest in this movie to its very disturbing end. “Winter’s Bone” is rate R for some drug material, language and violent content.
