Unknown is a mystery thriller starring Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, and January Jones. The movie is set in Berlin as Dr. Martin Harris (Liam Neeson) and his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Harris (January Jones) arrive from America for Dr. Harris to attend a conference to discuss some of his research. Upon Dr. and Mrs. Harris’ arrival a series of events begin to occur all starting from a near death car accident involving Dr. Harris resulting in a coma.

Once Dr. Harris awakens from the coma, he has trouble recalling everything except who he is and who his wife is. In a quest to find his Liz, he soon discovers that he has been a victim to identity theft. Liz denies knowing him and another man has assumed his name, wife, and profession. With the assistance of a retired East German secret police officer and a young woman, Gina (Diane Kruger), Dr. Harris’ makes relentless efforts to reclaim his life.

I really enjoyed the direction of this film. Director Juame Collet -Serra, known for directing other films such as House of Wax (2005) and Orphan (2009), seemed to have a thumbprint gritty theme. This raw edge look gave the thrillers which preceded Unknown a sense of intensity to it’s viewers. The combination of the intense direction of Unknown by Juame Collet – Serra and the brilliant acting performed by Neeson was the perfect recipe with the right amount of mystery and thrill to keep me on the edge of my seat!

Overall, Unknown was extremely unpredictable, exciting, and mind boggling.

My verdict: 5 stars
