A Christmas Story

This movie is rated PG, mostly for some language and sexual humor.  It is an hour and thirty-three minutes long.  It stars Peter Billingsly, Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon.

This movie is one that is usually on during the Christmas season.  It is a comedy about the life and times of a young boy.  The boy wants a red rider BB gun, yet everyone is telling him that he can’t have one because he will shoot his eye out.  The lengths the boy is willing to go through to get the gun is very humerous.  The family is very fun, the mom loves to play with her kids, and the father, well he is your typical 1950’s father.  Two of the best scenes in this movie involve a young boy, a icy day, a pole, and a tongue, another involves the father, a lamp, and a leg.  I am sure if you have seen this movie you remember the scenes I am talking about.  If you haven’t seen it, I don’t want to spoil it for you.

The humor in this movie is timeless, which is one of the reasons that this movie is played pretty much every Christmas.  Not every “Christmas” movie gets played every year, and not many get played every day over and over.  This movie can be watched by anyone ages 8-88 (or older) and could get a laugh from all of them.  The family dinamic is a little odd at times, especially one scene which involves potatoes and a pig noise, but not in a bad way.  It is a disfunctional family, but not an abusive one.

That being said this movie is a little long and tedious at times.  The need for the main character to get a BB gun for Christmas is humerous, but towards the end of the movie the viewer might begin to think that the main character is a tad whiney.  In the end the viewer might also wish that someone would just give him a BB gun to shut him up.

I reccommend this movie for pretty much anyone, and if you haven’t seen it there is no need to wait until Christmas, rent it now and enjoy.
