This film is about a team of mercenaries who travel the globe to complete top secret missions. When deciding a new mission, the leader, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), travels on location to South America with his right hand man, Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) to scout for the target. After a surprise encounter with the General’s daughter (the target), named Sandra (Giselle Itie), places begin to explode, people are shooting, and they must escape. After Ross and Christmas barely get to their getaway plane, Sandra wants to stay and protect her people and face the consequences. Later after the team agrees not to take on the mission, Ross decides to go back for Sandra anyway. Little did they know, the General is working with a man named James Munroe (Eric Roberts), who has a lot of money, guns and the army in his back corner. The team returns and the war begins. Is Sandra still alive? Will the team survive against Munroe’s army?
Review:
The only part I like about the film is that Sylvester Stallone directed it. Kudos. One the other hand, the film didn’t really have a storyline, it was just bombarded with action. There were no reason behind decisions, no history line, no connection with the characters or things happening in the film. There was a moment or two with OK action scenes, but the movie had so much action that it was too much. So much that it appears that Stallone was trying to hard to have a good action film. I love explosions and gun shooting and torturing but the explosions and such had more scenes than the actors. It also looked too Hollywood instead of looking natural. All of the actors were also not necessary to have. For instance, Mickey Rourke (played as Tool) an ex-mercenary and Ross’ close friend. All he did was tell a lame sob story and tattoo Ross. All of the main characters weren’t needed either because Stallone and Statham were filmed the most. Why have the others in the movie, just to promote? End all, I will never watch this movie again. Try again Stallone.
