Movie and Film Reviews (MFR) Action,Adventure,Sci-Fi Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Imelda Staunton

Well, we are back at Hogwart’s, and the drama continues.  I actually thought this installment of the ‘Harry Potter’ movie series was just so-so.  I liked the movie overall, but I don’t have any part of me that wants to go see it again.  I’m glad I watched it, but I doubt I’ll ever feel the need to repeat it.  There was less flash, and pizzazz in this one.  It was more about the story, than the effects, I felt.  That’s great, really, but with so many movies in the series, it didn’t really compete well, in my opinion.  Now, I liked the last one, “The Goblet of Fire”,  better, because of all the cool effects, and environments it had in it.  It kind of reminded me of a Star Wars flick, but when I talked to friends of mine who had read the books (I haven’t, I must confess!) , they told me they liked ‘The Order of the Phoenix’ better, because it followed the book more closely.  They informed me they thought that the last one was overblown with special effects, and that the dragon scene in ‘Goblet of Fire’ was too long compared to the book.  So… I guess I would say that I can see both sides, but for this reviewer ‘The Order of the Phoenix’ was a bit bland!  Having not read the books, I do not know what the next movie is about, but judging by the story line in this movie, I think the next one will be much better.  I felt like the story in this one had to be told, in order to get to the next movie, but that it just isn’t an important edition to the series.  I  give this one three out of five stars, because it’s still a good film.

  1. Well first off this is suppose to be a childs movie, so keep that in mind. It had me on the edge of my seat just waiting for the next move. It had my fuul attention all the way through, and that’s after a 16 hour shift. It’s about unity, lose of life, and to never give up, which are all great lessons in life itself. Not judging by what others have said, but I’ve seen all of them and it’s just another part to this magnificent movie.

  2. As a film snob, I would have to go with this movie as the best so far. Sure, there weren’t as many crazy effects (ummm…the fight in the ministry was pretty cool, but I’ll not pick a fight), but it did have one thing all the other movies put together lacked: a believable Harry Potter. Radcliff has been so bland in the other four movies, I almost didn’t want to see this one. I was afraid that every time I read the book, I wouldn’t be able to give Harry the dynamic character Rowling writes for him. Thankfully, Radcliff seems to have improved his acting abilities for this movie, lending a whole new persona to Harry, truly making the story come alive, as opposed to struggle vainly and end blandly.
