welcome back to the ancient comic book called the batman. Batman is something different among the other comic books. Well already many batman movies have come and only few survived the flood against superman series. But Christopher Nolan brings back the edition of batman in an entirely new level. He brings in the story of how Bruce wayne turned into batman. The caped crusader or a vigilante trying to protect his city from evil forces. But the real enemy is someone very close to bruce that may make him pay for the price he committed.
Coming to the basic plot: The story is very simple and straight forward. Its about the journey and quest of Gotham’s prince who turns into a vigilante for saving his city. During his journey he encounters many obstacles and mostly the dreadful fear , he calls as nightmare for himself and even to the mad men around him. Now what is the way that he can choose to leave all sorts of fear and become fear to the bad.
Narration in the movie is one of the best around. The wafer thin line story has been beautifully narrated. Right from the start, till the end movie goes on a narrative mode loaded with lots of inspirational dialogues from the supporting characters. When the real action kicks in, we are in for a surprise.
Characterization is perfect in the movie. Bruce Wayne is the prince of Gotham and he has a strict character in himself. Very brave enough , but not for his nightmares the bats. Rachel dawes is bruce’s close friend and more like a friend transformed lover. She makes bruce realize that something is necessary than the revenge to achieve justice. At the real time, she digs down bruce for keeping her real hero inside someone the bad is afraid of. Alfred pennyworth is bruce’s butler. He is calm and always makes bruce to understand the fact that his father’ name should be saved and never be spoilt and this has been throughout generations. Jim Gordon is seargent for the Gotham city and tries to protect city by capturing Falconi. He believes that batman does the good and in the end he asks that he never thanked him. One must wait for the reply from batman. Bruce’s father thomas wayne is inspirational to his son and he always says that don’t be afraid. His mother has just a dialogue or two. I don’t even know her name in the movie. Ducard aka Ra’s al ghul is the bad person in the movie. He enacted perfectly his role.
Performances were mesmerizing when Christian bale and Liam Neeson were together on screen. Their chemistry worked really good. Bale enacted the role of the billionaire who does not care about what he is doing and also the masked vigilante to perfection. Micheal Caine was awe inspiring as Alfred. I will remember his acting forever. Morgan freeman as Fox did his neat job. For some reasons we must be careful, because he is trying to give all the handy army stuffs to bruce wayne and he is not an idiot. I guarentee. Liam Neeson did actually the role to denote he is capable of. Katie Holmes as Rachel dawes acting as DA in the movie script is really cool. But she is not serious about in her proceedings unless we get used to. She was just ok in that role. But considering the friend and trust of Bruce wayne, she was perfect. In a scene where she slaps bruce and starts leaving tears we realize that she has some deep connection with bruce. Linus Roache as Thomas wayne did his small role to perfection. Rest others did their respective jobs.
Dialogues in the movie are standouts. They are inspirational and also touching sometimes. Some dialogues are motivating and giving grip to the story. Connections in the scenes and dialogues getting matched with the previous defines a purpose and we know that Nolan is capable of that.
Technically movie is good and action scenes are good too. Sometimes we may feel scenes are dark and dragged towards the climax. But anyway it is a very good movie.
Bottom line: If I am a caped crusader, I will try to sneak out in the nights and ask everyone single batman lover to watch this movie. Its interesting, motivating strongly scripted and perfectly narrated. Mesmerizing performances and brilliant technical values are the bigger assets for this one. The last scene in the movie makes me realize that the next one is on the way and we got a still very tough guy. On the whole Batman begins is a perfect start for the superhero movies to begin. Hats off to Nolan and his team. I give the movie A+
Great Character, Great Director, Great Support Cast, and a Great Review.
