In the heart of the nation’s capital, in a courthouse of the U.S government one man will stop at nothing to keep his honor and one man will stop at nothing in finding the truth.
At the U.S Naval base at Guantanamo Bay Cuba there has been a murder. Pfc Santiago is announced dead and the cause of death noted as Lactic Acidosis. Lance Cpl Harold Dawson and Pfc Louden Downey are being tried for the murder and if found guilty will be dishonorably discharged with certain jail time. Their seem to be something out of place about all of this and Lt Cdr JoAnne Galloway sense something foul and wishes to represent the accused herself at the courtroom. Respectfully denying her request Lt Daniel Kaffe a U.S Navy Lawyer is handed over the case. Lt.Kaffe who has no previous courtroom experience is an overconfident Harvard Law school graduate who has a brilliant track record of his career of nine months! Little is he aware that by accepting this case he would be going up against a man who is confident of himself as he is. A man who has his breakfast daily just 300 yards from 3000 Cubans who are trained to kill him. Introducing Col Nathan Jessep!
The testosterone levels are off the charts in A FEW GOOD MEN. Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Kevin Bacon, Kevin Pollack, Cuba Gooding Jr, Keifer Sutherland and the rose amongst the thorns, the beauty amongst the beasts ; Demi Moore. Mr. Rob Reiner and the casting department are on their games and have the horse by its reins and are in full control of this mean machine overflowing with talent.
Without even a moment’s hesitation I am rating this one a thumping 4 Stars! Why not 5? I would like believe the best of the best is yet to come. You need to watch the best to know the greats when they arrive. If by some chance you have not watched this; head out right now to the nearest video store and grab yourself a Blu Ray/DVD.
Wolfgang Bodison, James Marshall and Kiefer Sutherland had me at GO. I have watched Kiefer Sutherlands hit TV show 24 and I am a huge fan. I believe he is even better in FEW GOOD MEN. Their performance as U.S Marines is powerful and hard that I was taken a back and every appearance they made had my respect. Tom Cruise on the other hand is supposed to come off as this cool newbie who is too smart for his own shoes and he sure does come through with it well. There is a careful development in his character that he plays very wisely. He comes from a Harvard college boy to being Lt. Daniel Kaffee who goes head to head with the heavy weight Col Nathan Jessep. This character development is where the inspiration of the movie is to me. How anyone can become anyone they want to be if they put their heart into it.
Jack Nicholson is my man of the hour. Actors like Jack Nicholson, Anthony Hopkins, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino are players that you can fearlessly throw in front of a camera and they will get nods from the whole world. I am yet to see that in any other actor of today. Can you name one other? Coming back to Jack Nicholson, he truly lived up to a Colonel who commands the U.S Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay.
The best is yet to come. The whole movie that is intense all the 2 hours through explodes out of the screens when Col Nathan Jessep is taken on head to head by Lt Daniel Kaffee. This is Lt Daniel Kaffees first courtroom experience and he is taking on the scariest man who walks Guantanamo Bay! The outcome?
The outcome is magical; it’s whimsical, brilliant and magnificent. Need I say more?
This is how I see it nothing more nothing less
