The Last Exorcism (87 min)
I am a firm believer in that the ending can make or break a movie. The movie could be good the whole way through until the end and to me that is not a good movie. I enjoyed it up until the very end, where it seems to just go way off into la la land. I liked the idea of a story about a pastor, who lost his faith and then regains it back via wake up call. He performs exorcisms but performs them as if they were a hoax. Boy does he ever get a violent and assuring wake-up call. He decides to perform one last exorcism with the help of a film crew just to prove that it is all a myth and that demons do not exist. He chooses the daughter of a farmer to perform an exorcism on. They head to Ivanwood and they have a hostile reception from Louis’s son Caleb. Cotton begins performing the exorcism in Nell, exposing his tricks to the camera, but sooner they learn that Nell has a real problem and is a real threat along with her very dysfunctional family. The movie is chilling and quiet and has some quite frightening moments of true terror. The acting is real and convincing. But all this just leads to an ending this is so bizarre and out of nowhere that it will have you sitting there staring blankly at the credits and saying out loud to yourself: “What”? It basically ruined what was a good and effective movie about a man who once lost his faith in God but then finds it again in a shocking and forceful manner. “The Last Exorcism” is rated PG-13 for disturbing violent content and terror, some sexual references and thematic material.
I agree with you on the end, It was the worst ending ever! But all along the movie could have had a better story line and of course better directions and acting, they all seemed very unprofessional which ruined the movie. The theme of the movie was fantastic and i liked the part where you wrote about the wake up call. I have to disagree with you on the acting part, everyone were horrible actors, i think the actors could not connect to their roles and that itself makes them bad actors for this particular movie. I would not recommend the movie to any horror viewer but to critics who haven’t found a movie to criticize, This movie is perfect for criticism as there are so many gaps and failures in this movie. I think this movie was the biggest failure in the exorcist movies and is a disgrace to the and genre of horror.
