Starring: John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Mary McCormack, Tony Shalhoub
Certainly an eerie addition to John Cusack’s portfolio. I thought it was well done, and
had a few scary moments. However, it’s lack in finality, is what also made it the kind of
horror/thriller I don’t care for too much. I don’t want to ruin the ending for anyone, but
there really isn’t one. Anytime you have a horror movie, like ‘Nightmare on Elm St’ where
when it ends, they leave you wondering if it really did… if what you just saw was real or a
dream….well then I think it’s kind of a cop out. In fact, the first film in that series was the
only one of that kind that I thought ever did a good enough job that I didn’t mind it.
However, starting with the 2nd of that series, it was getting old real quick. Well, this one
is very similar at the end, and I hated that about it. It was also clear about halfway
through that there wasn’t going to be a way for him to ‘beat’ the scary hotel room…and
that made me less interested in watching the rest of the movie. When there’s no hope
for success, why bother? So…. I gave this movie two and a half stars out of five…and at
least one of those stars was an extra one I threw in for John Cusack, because he’s my
boy. :)
