Frozen

FROZENDIRECTED BY: ADAM GREEN

STARRING: SHAWN ASHMORE, EMMA BELL, KEVIN ZEGERS

PLOT:

Three skii bunnies get trapped on a ski lift while on their way up for one last run, due to the dumbassery of the resort staff.

THE GOOD:

Wow, this is how you make a movie. To be honest this film is a perfect example of my kind of horror flick, I love burnt men with knives for  fingers  and killer dolls just as much as the next guy but a suspenseful film with a realistic premise is my cup of tea. How many tragic stories have we all read about people being in the wrong places at the wrong times and never making their way out of the predicament? Several good things to say about this movie, one being Shawn Ashmore stealing the movie for me his perfomance was top notch. They also did a good job of bringing forth the elements that let us know that this is going to be a problem not easily solved, never once did I think to myself this is ridiculous I would be out of there and back to safety in a minute. Another thing that won me over is that they made me feel the sense of despair and hopelessness that the characters felt after awhile, when the first storm hit I thought yep these three are fucked. Last but not least this movie is living proof that the music that accompanies a film is what helps bring out the emotion in the viewer most of the time, the score in this movie was amazing it kept me on the edge of my seat during the perilous moments and there are a couple scenes that tugged on the heart strings quite a bit…you’ll know the ones I mean.

THE BAD:

I thought near the beginning that I was gonna hate a couple of the characters from the way they were acting but that annoyance was short lived as my empathy for them and their situation grew. I was a little frustrated at the ending because the way it turned out is the only thing I feel that wouldn’t have happened in real life, it almost felt like sort of a cop out and again you’ll know what I mean when the moment comes.

My Final Answer:

I’m givin this film a B. Beautifully directed, beautifully scored, beautifully acted and it freaked the shit out of me. The ending was a bit of a let down but I overlooked this and saw the film for what it was which was one hell of an emotional ride. Can’t wait to bring it up in my Intro to Cinema class.
