MARMADUKE!
Marmaduke is a typical family comedy, directed by Tom Dey starring Owen Wilson as the voice of Marmaduke. George Lopez as the voice of Carlos the family cat, and Marmaduke’s only real friend, Lee Paste as Phil the animal’s master. William H. Massey as Phil’s boss, other stars in the film include the voices of recording artist Fergie the voice of the beautiful, popular collie. Kiefer Sutherland the voice of Bosco the collie’s lover and ultimate alpha male. As well as Amber Stone who plays the voice of Marmaduke’s other love interest.
The movie begins with Marmaduke as your normal puppy obeying his master’s every command. The family falls in love with him then he grows into an unruly, out of control, oversized teenage dog. The family lives in Kansas City, but their worlds are turned upside down when Phil gets a new job, as a Dog food Executive and has to relocate to Ocean City California. When they move to Ocean City everyone has a rough time adjusting. As the children try to fit in and make new friends at their new school, and Phil tries to impress his new boss at work. Marmaduke has his own issues to deal with. He is the new outcast at the local dog park the first day there he makes two new friends two love interest and one enemy.
Bosco the alpha male and bully of the park notices Marmaduke’s immediate interest in the collie. He warns Marmaduke to stay away from his girlfriend or there will be consequences. Throughout the movie Marmaduke struggles with trying to fit in with the popular dogs, and trying to get with the collie. But during this whole time he fails to realize that he already had real, and a true love interest he’d been ignoring the entire time. But when he lies to impress the collie and it blows up in his face this is when he finally realizes that and tries to change for the better of his family at home and his true friends. Basically Marmaduke is your average dog who deals with real life issues such as bullies, love, romance, popularity, and true friendship.
This is a great movie for children ages five through ten. But for an adult this is not a movie I would suggest. Unless of course you’re taking a bunch of children to see it or you are an obsessed dog lover. There is really nothing beneficial, or circumstantial to be seen in this movie. Especially since most of the animals actions seem unrealistic and farfetched.
