It seems like superheroes are becoming quite popular this at the movies. From “Thor” to “X-Men First Class” it seems like comic book superheroes are becoming a very popular icon at the box office. Now, we get another iteration of the comic book superhero in the form of “Captain America: The First Avenger.” There have been other versions of the Captain America story back in the 1970s and in 1990. But those versions failed miserably. Now we get a film version of Captain America that’s actually very entertaining. The only problem that the movie suffers is that it feels somewhat predicable at times and that the movie does feel like it is borrowing from other films as well. “Captain America: The First Avenger” is entertaining at best but feels like we’ve seen this before.
The story centers on Steve Rogers, a young man who eagerly wants to join the army in World War II. Unfortunately, his health does not allow Steve to join. Luckily, a German scientist gets Steve into a governmental experiment that transforms men into super soldiers. So, Steve Rogers transforms into the military hero known as Captain America. The army sends the Captain into combat to stop the villainous Red Skull.
“Captain America: The First Avenger” is an entertaining film that is fun to watch. The story was well thought out and the pacing was simple enough to maintain a two-hour run time. The music by Alan Silvestri is great as it keeps the action of the movie perfectly, bringing the action to a great climax. And speaking of action, the film does a fine job at keeping the audience focused enough so that they will not be bored. Even though the battle scenes do not take place until the beginning of the second act, there were plenty of explosions to keep the film from slipping towards stupidity.
The cinematography for the movie is great as well. It captures the essence of the 1940s and the spirit of the comic book that the movie is based off of true to the decade. There are no complaints surrounding this subject.
But with that being said, the movie does offer its share of moments that can turn off the entertainment value. For one thing, the acting was a little bland and I just didn’t feel that the actors portraying the characters on screen just didn’t make the performances believable. But what really got to me was that by the middle of the film, it felt predictable and that it was trying to copy other films. We’ve seen the hero tackle on numerous missions that are quite impossible. The movie even tries to copy some action scenes from other films, as well. In fact, there is a scene near the end of the film where the main characters rip off “Batman”. And, of course, just like every other Marvel movie, we get a short preview of “The Avengers” movie that is coming out in the summer of 2012.
Overall, “Captain America: The First Avenger” is not too bad, it just could have been better. Now, keep in mind that I saw the film in 2D and from my experience, the movie really didn’t need 3D. It stands on its own and while not a terrible film, it could have been a lot worse. It was fun and entertaining.
This movie “yes” it could have been better but how it turned out made allo tof viewers happy and I think your right 3D wasn’t necessary, but in the acting i thought it was beleivble and the actors give it the best effort they could
I though they did great job bring the capt to the big screen all around. You realy can’t expect ocasr worthy peformance from superhero movie. I agree 3d isn’t needed in most films, a good horror film maybe.
good acting, movie was alright.
It was a good movie altogether. I agree that it was really predictable as I would know what was going to happen next. I couldn’t see anything bland in the acting though.
I enjoyed watching this movie, though you do bring up a valid point that it was very predictable, but it was still an overall good movie. The fight scenes were a little cliche though.
I enjoyed watching it and saw it twice. Loved all the action an effects in the movie. I love the bravery of the main characters throughout the movie. I loved how they had a part of the ending in the beginning an then started the movie at the beginning.
