The Rite  (114 min)

This movie is indeed horrifying. Good acting, chilling scenery shot in Rome portrays this creepy exorcist show about a man who doesn’t believe in demons or the devil. He has doubt, but that all changes soon when he meets Father. The exorcisms are scary and done fairly well. Anthony Hopkins gives a breakthrough performance like he always does. The decent directing makes this movie scary but Hopkins makes it horrifying. The setting helps as well to give it a chilling mood. The problem that I had with this movie is that I have seen this movie already. The Last Exorcism is also about a man, a priest even who loses his faith then gets a really bad wakeup call when he is struck with the truth. There are also those pesky high cord sounds at random times that make us jump and annoying little demon noises here and there. People’s voices are enhanced too much and are physically transformed right in front of our eyes which involve skillful makeup. This movie does what it came to do though and that is to horrify us. “The Rite” is rated PG-13 for disturbing thematic material, violence, frightening images, and language including sexual references.
