Due Date (2010)

“You better check yourself before you wreck yourself.” Due Date is a comedy that takes two strangers on a crazy trip after being thrown off an airplane. The movie stars Zack Galifianakis, Robert Downey Jr. and Michelle Monaghan. Because they are on a road trip the movie doesn’t take place in just one setting but they do end up in Los Angeles.

Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.) is flying home to L.A. to be with his wife while they have their first child. But things don’t go to well when he ends up bumping into Ethan Tremblay (Zack Galifianakis) who is also going to L.A. to become an actor. They end up meeting again on the same plane and after Peter doesn’t turn his phone off Ethan saids something about a bomb which ends up getting them thrown off the plane and alson on the no fly list. To make matters worse Peter’s wallet and luggage is left on the plane. Ethan sees Peter again while he’s driving in his car through the parking lot and offers to give him a ride. Peter accepts and are now on a long road trip to L.A. Peter later finds out that Ethan wants to stop by the Grand Canyon to spread his father’s ashes, knowing that his wife could be giving birth any day now he disagrees but Ethan saids they are going there anyway. With the two having totally diffrent personalities things just get worse from there. Ethan spends almost all of his money on pot, leaving just sixty dollars left. After getting beaten up by a hanicapped veteran they get money wired to them. Peter late decides to ditch Ethan and his dog Sunny but then changes his mind and heads back. Then later in the night while driving Ethan falls asleep crashing the car. Luckily Peter has a friend who lives near where they are and he lends them his car. Then after Ethan decides to get high in the car he accidently ends up getting into the mexican border thinking it said Texico wanting to get gas. They get pulled over for the drugs but Ethan leaves Peter in the car and then later goes back to save him. In the end they are in a rush and running out of time to get to the Grand Canyon to spread Ethan’s dad’s ashes and also to get to L.A. for the birth of Peter’s first child. And they are not sure if they will be able to do both.

I loved how each of the characters had such different personalities. And both Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis did a really good job showing that through their characters. You have Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) who is a very laid back and goofy and is not the smartest person. When on the other hand you have Peter Highman (Downey Jr.) who is not very patient and more serious than Ethan and is in a hurry to get to his wife so he doesn’t miss the birth of his first child. The two of them made this movie really funny and enjoyable to watch. One minute they were arguing and then the next minute they were helping eachother out. Great job to both of them for their acting in this movie, I loved to watch both of them in this movie.

This movie was very funny but it also had some drama too. There wasn’t too much of either one in the movie, I think it was a perfect balance. The dramatic parts in this movie also weren’t really depressing but at the same time you could start to tear up a little. But it didn’t last long before something happened that made you laugh. I have seen some movies that look like they are going to be funny and end up being really sad and it wasn’t the case for this movie. I think there was just enough comedy and drama in this movie.

I wasn’t sure how this movie was going to play out. I expected it to be like one of those movies were it looks like it’s going to be funny but ends up being really depressing or not being funny at all but I was wrong. This movie was really enjoyable to watch and I loved these two diffrent actors in the same movie. They had diffrent personalities and fought a lot but then ended up helping eachother out in the end. Sometimes you started to tear up and other points you were laughing your ass off. I really loved this movie. It is really something worth watching.
