Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

While researching a breakthrough cure for brain disease, Dr. Will Rodman (Franco), discovers his research to be much more than he suspected. His efforts with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in Apes, who in turn plan an all out war for freedom and supremacy.

James Franco takes lead in this Rupert Wyatt directed film that is the origin tale to the science fiction classic “Planet of the Apes (1968)”.

A fairly small human casting to the number of computer generated apes in this film. James Franco as usual is an excellent choice, who in recent time has been showing a wide range of acting skill in his last few roles. Freida Pinto is his lover, who I must say, despite the exotic beauty, I barely noticed her in this film. Must have been all the apes jumping across the screen.

What an excellent film. Super smart and fancy. Everything looked authentic and well detailed, especially the CGI apes, who looked very convincing and not like they were generated off a computer. Another science experiment gone wrong. You cannot domesticate whats meant to be in the wild (Siegfried and Roy learned that the hard way). I like how the primate shelter was masked to actually mimic a prison, with crap food, cramped cells, the a-hole watch guard, and time out on the prison yard. Fight for your place as the alpha male, just excellent! “Gorilla warfare”, using tactics and all to outsmart humans. There is power in numbers.

Loved this. Go see it.

  1. I could not agree more, one of the better films I’ve seen this year. I also appreciate you writing a review for ”Attack The Block”, there are few people who know of this movie and it’s genius spread the word friend.
