Movie and Film Reviews (MFR) Comedy,Romance Review: Friends with Benefits

Review: Friends with Benefits

“Friends with Benefits” starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake is a rated R version of your normal romantic comedy. A young web designer Dylan (Timberlake) is scouted by New York resident headhunter Jamie (Kunis) to move from L.A to New York to redesign GQ’s website magazine. They’ve previously sworn off romantic relationships with the opposite sex so they quickly become best friends, which in this genre means their friendship quickly leads to them to humping each others brains out with the oath that there will be no feelings involved and they would stay friends.

The Awesome: The casting was great, Timberlake and Kunis both have strong successful comedic backgrounds, so that, plus their inspired chemistry on screen was awesome. I liked their cynical comical separation from real life “in the movie” and romantic comedies, I found myself laughing out loud many times to Mila’s foul mouth charm which made me like her more. Another plus is the countless bare ass walking away shots for both men and women so enjoy that pervs. Oh! and the cameos are pretty awesome as well!

The Bad: Formula! it is so predictable, they did include a ton of things to cover up the fact that is just another rom com, like the endless unnecessary profanity, sexy nakedness, and the comedic tie in of current technology. This is also what is great about the movie, they took all these three elements and combined them with the traditional rom com formula that made you forget the same old boy meets girl story. Woody Harrelson’s gay character (Tommy) was grossly underused, he was funny, but I couldn’t help wanting him to have more screen time since I won’t get a Zombieland 2 with Harrelson.

My Conclusion: If your not a fan of comic book movies I would suggest this weekend catching Friends With Benefits at your local theater, with a girlfriend (or a friend with benefits), because bottom line, it’s full of laughs, it’s very sexy, and I was thoroughly entertained.
