Starring: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Wes Bentley, Peter Fonda, and SAM ELLIOT!

I thought this movie was worth seeing, but it wasn’t spectacular.  I thought Nicolas Cage did an ‘ok’ job, his usual.  I don’t really know why he keeps getting lead roles, he’s clearly a much better supporting actor.  The show stealer in this movie is none other than the great surly voice of Sam Elliot, as narrator.  He also appears in the movie for a short bit as the caretaker of a cemetery.  The movie was kind of campy, for lack of a better word.  They tried to give it an Old Western type feel.  I liked it, but the character development lacked big time…and I really thought they would’ve been better off without a love interest.  Eva is hot, and I’m not complaining about seeing her, but it just didn’t really flow well, and I thought it was a silly tie in.  They should’ve just kept him a loner.  I realize, after reading up on the comic character, that the girlfriend was a key person in the original comic, but they didn’t really give her the same kind of role in the movie…maybe that was why I didn’t feel she belonged, I don’t know.  Sam Elliot adds so much gravitoss  to the movie though, that he makes up for the silly love story.  I give this movie two and a half stars out of five.
