Awake is a 2007 romantic drama directed by Joby Harold and starred by Hayden Christensen, the beautiful Jessica Alba, Terrance Howard, and Lena Olin. The movie follows the life of Clayton Beresford jnr (Hayden Christensen) a young wealthy man who has taken over his late father’s fortune in stock market. He has a heart condition that needs a transplant urgently. While his mother Lilith Beresford (Lena Olin) recommends the best doctor, Clayton chooses his best friend Dr. Jack Harper (Terrance Howard) . While Dr. Harper agrees to perform the surgery, he continuously tells Clayton that it is not entirely safe, as there are chances that he might die during the surgery. He urges Clayton to enjoy life now before he under goes the sugary, urging him to marry his girlfriend Sam Lockwood, (Jessica Alba) Lilith’s secretary.
Against his mothers’ wishes, Clayton secretly marries Sam., after having been dating for six month, the night before the surgery. During the surgery, Clayton is given an anesthetic to help him sleep throughout the transplant. However, Clayton surfers from anesthetic awareness, and finds himself awake and aware throughout the whole operation.
As the procedure continues, he realizes that it was a trap all along to kill him during his surgery, but he is confused as to what the motive of being killed is. He hopelessly shouts that anyone, especially his wife Sam, could hear him and come to his rescue. Clayton becomes joyful when his prayers seems like they are being answered when out of nowhere Sam enters the operating room. But Clayton’s Joy is short lived when he realizes that His wife is in on the game. Now he knows the motive; Clayton is to be murdered during the surgery, which will look like an accident that happens all the time with heart transplant patients, all proceeds goes to the grieving wife Same Beresford, who in turn will share her late husband’s wealth to all the doctors who performed the surgery
Now it’s up to his mother to save his son’s life. Will she be there in time? How will she save him? Does she even know her son is in danger and that he needs her help?
This is one of the best movies ever made, and I’d recommend anyone to watch it. What I like most about it is that fact that we are made to like what Clayton likes and dislike what he dislike. For instance, we are made to dislike his mother when she and Sam don’t see eye to eye and tells Clayton not to pursue a romantic relations with her. Also when Lilith didn’t trust Clayton’s decision when he chose Dr Harper to be his doctor, rather than the doctor she recommended.
The viewer also supports Clayton’s decisions and at the end both the viewer and the character regrets on the decision they have taken of falling in love with the wrong person and choosing the wrong doctor. Now we turn to the person we thought cared for us least.
If you haven’t watched the movie, drop everything and go watch it. I will leave u glued to the screen even during the end credits
