This is a little thing I decided to do to allow all of ye savvy movie reviewers to get a name stuck in your head. For these next directors listed, if ANY of them make a movie, chances are that it is worth checking out. The list is very packed with all of the best possible directors, from the great oldies to the immaculate elite that we are lucky to have today.

The Chain of Being is as follows:

Gods:
> Gasper Noe – Films: Irreversible, Enter the Void. Reasons: His shots are amazing, and he can make a visionary story that allows viewers to fall right into the plot and feel the shots and the pity for the characters.

> Christopher Nolan – Films: Following, Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception. Reasons: He is simply amazing. His shots are beautiful, and his creative ability is matched by no other person. The way his films produce profound expression is unrivaled, simply because he lets you into the story, having worry for the characters at times, or being royally pissed at someone that he has created for the screen. A prime example of his talent is shown in The Prestige, which was based on a book. The book was dreadful, and yet he made it into one of the greatest movies ever made.

The Angels:
> Quentin Tarantino – Films: Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds. Reasons: His shots and editing are amazing, but what is best about Tarantino are his plots and his unrivaled writing ability. The man’s scripts are simply astounding, and his conversations are so realistic.

> Danny Boyle – Films: Slumdog Millionaire, Sunshine, 127 Hours, 28 Days Later, Trainspotting. Reasons: Danny Boyle is a visionary. He can mold a scary movie, a sci-fi flick, or a biographical nightmare into something that everyone can enjoy.

> Darren Aronofsky – Films: The example of behind-the-camera perfection in film, Aronofsky’s shots and editing (by Mathew Libatique and Jay Rabinowitz) are simply phenomenal. The man’s plots and gripping way of showing the world to the audience should be looked upon highly.

> Martin Scorsese – Films: The Departed, GoodFellas, Casino, Mean Streets, Taxi Driver. Reasons: The man’s a living legend, some of his films regarded as the greatest movies ever. His stories are gripping and the writing in them is outstanding, especially in the all-too-real dialog.

> David Fincher: Films – Se7en, Zodiac, The Social Network, Fight Club. Reasons: His innovative style, masterful storytelling through quick, addictive cuts, and his great work with credits and titles makes his spot on this list sealed. The man’s… amazing.

> Richard Kelly – Films: Southland Tales, Donnie Darko. Reasons: His shots and plots are great, and he makes a story and its characters important to the audience.

> Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu – Films: 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful. Reasons: The man’s artistic view and confusingly beautiful non-linear filming make his movies something that should not be missed. The plot and character development are what truly make him an amazing director.

The Saints
> Alfonso Cuaron – Films: Children of Men, Great Expectations, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Reasons: His creativity and visionary look makes a watcher intent on finding the root to the beauty. His grainy realism is what attracts many viewers, and his striking views on the world shake the foundation of normalcy in cinema.

> Zack Snyder – Films: 300, Watchmen, SuckerPunch. Reasons: His style and creative look are all to attractive to ignore. 300 was certainly a hit with amazing action, Watchmen faltered a bit with appealing writing but altogether flawed cinematics (but amazing shots and looks!), and SuckerPunch redefined him as someone to be respected in cinema for combining his best aspects from other films together with a kick-ass soundtrack.

> Robert Zemeckis – Films: Forrest Gump, Contact, Back to the Future series. Reasons: His shots are great, the development is fascinating, and the way he pulls you into whatever you are watching will really make you appreciate his ability, even in older films, to make your day with the right events occurring.

> Stanley Kubrick – Films: The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange. Reasons: The man’s shots are unforgettable and unique, his plots are profound, his development is eerily subtle, and jumps up on you when you aren’t prepared. He is a legendary figure that made amazing films, but could never follow through entirely, never creating a completely great movie.

> James Wan – Films: Saw, Death Sentence, Insidious. Reasons: His subtlety may not be recognized, but his innovative plots, shots and development (along with great music in each of his films) have made James Wan a figure of genius in Hollywood, mainly due to the fact that he knows how to grab an audience and say “did you see THAT?”

> The Coen Brothers – Films: No Country for Old Men, Miller’s Crossing, Fargo, The Big Lebowski. Reasons: Shots and score (Carter Burwell) are very good to the Coen Brothers, as are efficient direction and good writing. Though they miss the cut often (and can’t end a damn movie! (well, besides No Country, Miller’s Crossing and Fargo)), they are still a respectable and great movie duo.

> James Cameron – Films: Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Terminator, Titanic, Avatar, Aliens. Reasons: Though he can’t write for shit, James Cameron is an amazing director, and knows how to make money off of a damn movie (having the 1st and 2nd place records for highest grossing film ever). His visions are amazing, his graphics are interesting, and his style is unforgettable.

> Peter Jackson – Films: Lord of the Rings series, King Kong, Dead Alive. Reasons: Great shots, great writing and interesting plots. The way he develops the characters to be loved is something that I like about Jackson and his gripping elements.

> Marc Forster – Films: Quantum of Solace, Monster’s Ball, Stay, Kite Runner, Everything Put Together. Reasons: His visionary looks and great plots make Marc Forster a force that is becoming stronger in Hollywood. The ability to craft characters with such wealth and interesting plots is not something you can find in just anyone.
