Biographical films are important in our culture because they bring emphasis to reality. The beauty of these films is that no matter how amazing the idea, it was real. So here are the best of the best, the realest of the real, and the most effective and interesting, and most importantly, great, of all of the Biopics.
5. Good Night and Good Luck (2005)
4. Ed Wood (1994)
3. The Social Network (2010)
2. Gandhi (1982)
1. Man on the Moon (2000)
Nice shout for Man On The Moon, one of the most undervalued films from the late 90’s, it’s a true gem and Jim Carrey is simply wonderful in the lead role.
Completely agreed, Daniel.
These are all outstanding choices but I’m surprised you left out Olivier Dahan’s biopic of Edith Piaf, “La Vie En Rose” as well as Scorsese’s incredible biopic of Howard Hughes, “The Aviator”. Nevertheless, your picks were fantastic and it’s performances like that which we’ve seen in “Ghandi” and “Good Night and Good Luck” that keep my adoration of film alive. Honestly, wonderful list.
Good Night And Good Luck was wonderful, i still need to see Ghandi! it’s sat at home just waiting to be watched lol
thank you Scarlett, and I didn’t like Aviator because it was too non-Hughes. Its a long story, but Leo seemed too unreal to play Hughes. And Daniel, JESUS! See Gandhi immediately! Richard Attenborough is amazing!
I will!
