When strange forces attack our planet there is nothing else we can do but to fight and try to sustain as much of the pain as possible. There will be blood, although it might not be red in colour at all. There will be tears, although they might not be wet at all. There will be pain, although it might not be sensual at all. There will be stupidity, although… It will be very noticeable.  When hearing of aliens, tentacles and brain experiments many of the viewers will think of a sci-fi movie form the early years of the past century. In reality, Skyline is a science-fiction flick which came out in early Novermber 2010, but don’t worry, it has the same qualities as the movies from the early 1940s. Los Angeles, California. A Beastly attack on the city turns it into a chaotic mass of running, screaming and shocked people who try to save their lives as well as the future of the town. Hardly a smart thing to be done, an alien race of tentacle monsters is the originator of this charge. Their weapons: eye-lasers, mind control… everything a normal person cannot do that easily. Their aim: to experiment on human brains in order to gain knowledge and information. Why LA then? There is hardly any evidence of an intelligent reason behind this. Anyways, when the action starts we are engulfed into a less than stupid war between the human and the octopus-like races. Laser beams shooting straight from the eyes of the maincharacter make us wonder why are we even watching this? As we look into the cats and staff of Skyline we get to understand more than well the reason behind all this chaos on the screen. The Brothers Strause… This is the team whose filmmaking abilities made names such as Avatar, X-men and 2012 two of the biggest names (Avatar being the biggest) in the Box Office charts. Visual effects, sound effects, a lot of fiction and not that much of science – these are the things that make these people’s movies a hit. What makes them a miss is when these Strause Brothers decide to also be directing a flick… their credit in this field can be explained with just one title: Aliens vs Predator: Requiem.

When we look at the big picture, as a whole Skyline is probably a better-than-nothing for the real fanatics over sci-fi thriller flicks. For the normal viewer, though, it will be nothing more than a fully-fledged copy-combination between 2012, Star Wars and some silly children’s comic book. There is nothing neither new nor catchy around this movie. If at least the cast was something notable, but even it is not thought-of that well.
