Best in show stars a fun cast of characters including, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Jennifer Coolidge, and Catherine O’hara. It is rated PG-13 for sexual situations and language. It is an hour and a half long and is by Christopher Guest, of Waiting for Guffman fame.
If you like sarcastic, quiet comedy, this is the movie for you. It is about a group of people who are in the show dog circuit. It shows the different personalities of the people, and the personalities they project onto their dogs. The people go though the trials of getting to the big dog show, being in the big show, and getting the coveted BEST IN SHOW award and giant cup. If you ever watched the reality television show “showdog moms and dads” this is like that except much more silly and playful.
The characters in this movie were all quite hilarious. Parker Poseys character and her husband both freak out whn they realize that they left their dog’e toy at the hotel. Parker Posey runs back to search for it and starts yelling at everyone when she can’t find it. It’s a dog toy and she is having an atomic freakout! One of the characters that constantly made me laugh was the character played by Catherine O’Hara. Her and her husband, played by Eugene Levy, are constantly running into people that she has had wild sex with. Eugene’s character is shocked and jealous of all of the men that come up to his wife, but she keeps reassuring him that he is the only one for her.
My one problem with this movie is that the humor at times was so very quiet, that I am sure I missed some of the jokes and some of the comedy. I am pretty sure that I missed a bunch of the jokes becuase I didn’t get it either.
Honestly, if you get the chance to rent the movie, see it. Especially if you know people who are soo into their pets that they sing songs about their pets! Watch out though, you might excite a dog.
