The film Time Traveler’s Wife is a beautiful film with Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana in the leads. They play a couple who are separated at times when Eric’s character, Henry, travels to a different times in his life. He meets a young girl named Claire, played by McAdams, who meets him when she is very young and is more interested than frightened with his disorder. Over the years it takes a toll on the couple. They struggle to share moments together in their lives. As the film progresses they find a way to stay happy and together.
I thought that this movie was elegant and beautiful. It was very emotionally charged, and the drama of the story was told well via the acting as well as the directing and cinematography. I felt that both Bana and McAdams did excellent work in this film, and Schwentke truly redefines the genre with his film. However, I am a little uneasy about his upcoming movie and am not sure he can live up to the quality he put forth in this film.
This review is very short. I believe the reviewer could have developed the plot more by stating that not only did the Henry meet Clare at different times in her life (as a child and as an adult), he also traveled back in time and met himself as a child. The goal of this meeting was to educate himself on his condition.
The director of the film and the director’s past work could have been mentioned and compared.
The reviewer could have also mentioned that the movie is based on Audrey Niffenegger’s book of the same title. This book has received excellent reviews and lends itself to the excellent reviews the movie received. While time travel stories are not original, Niffenegger’s prospective is very original, clever, compelling and heartwarming.
I enjoyed this film. It was well written and the actors were brilliant in their roles. A must see!
