The Karate Kid 2010

The Karate Kid 2010 is set in modern China.  Directed by Harald Zwart  and written by Christopher Murphey and Robert Mark kamen.

Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) and his mother Sherry Parker (Taraji P. Henson) move to China in order to enhance Sherry’s career.  Well if you have seen the original Karate Kid with Ralph Macchio (Daniel Sun) and Mr Miyagi (Pat Morita) then you will recognise the storyline.  Young boy in a new place, tries to make friends, meets a girl Meiying (Wenwen Han) and gets bullied by the local boys, who I might add are kung fu taught students.  So Dre gets bullied and beaten up by Cheng (Zhenwei Wang) and his gang of boys.  Mr Han (Jackie Chan) who we know as the maintenance man, steps in and fends off the young boys in a fight to rescue young Dre from a brutal butt whoopin.  After witnessing Mr Han’s ability to fight, Dre asks for him to become his kung fu teacher.  So the pair set off on a journey to help Dre develop his kung fu skills in a chance to fight Cheng at the championships.  Along the way his friendship with Meiying soon starts to blossom.  Meiying a shy young girl who feels her only purpose in life is to play, learn and breathe the violin.  Instructed by her parents who later reveals that Meiying no longer can be friends with Dre for they feel that he is a bad influence on their daughter.
We learn here that young Dre Parker has a few things that he needs to overcome in order to gain friendship and respect to fit into his new home.

China, an ancient historical dynasty which is full of wonder and awe.  During the filming of this movie, we do get to view a few different places.  Breathtakingly beautiful.  When Mr Han and Dre take a train trip into the mountains for one of Dre’s lessons, the scene of natural rich greenery which emanates such radiance of a country making it even more appreciated where it speaks to a person with absolutely no words at all.

I also found that the chinese people are well disciplined in many areas of their lives and cultural backgrounds.  Which we can see through Meiying and her devotion in studying the violin, the cobra and the lady and the students of the kung fu school etc…..

Okay, so how did i view The Karate Kid 2010, not a bad movie so i am going to give it 3 stars.   Well I felt that it was not an original script but i did enjoy the movie.  I also look forward to young Jaden Smith with his future ventures on the big screen.

Until next time, see you at the movies!
