This is England

I am 16 and am a Junior in high school, so I normally appreciate the coming-of-age tales. In this case, it was more of a “why the hell” kind of film, meaning that you never really know why certain people did certain things. The plot was good, and the characters were well built, along with the fact that the humor was well written, but some of the story is a bit either boring at times, or a little bit stupid, to say the least. Most of the film, though, is funny, sad, both, or just generally well done. It is all true, as well, based on the writer/director’s actually life.

The film is about a kid named Shaun who, after getting in a fight, befriends some skinheads under a bridge and develops a strong, open relationship from there. The film is very powerful and moving, and it is a fun film to watch when you are bored.

Best Aspects: Good acting, writing and direction, and fantastic sequence transition.

Bottom Line: B+. It is a good movie, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in foreign (but still English) films.
