Directed by John Carpenter
Starring Austin Stoker, Darwin Joston, Laurie Zimmer
I saw the remake first which was ok i guess (2 out of 4 stars ). I never thought to look this one up. I remembered walking by the box as a kid at the video store but i always thought the movie was too damn dark as the depictions on the cover of the box showed. This flick is dark alright. Forget about the remake which is tame compared to this beast.
[SPOILER]
when the little girl gets shot i jumped out of my seat
The remake could never be that furious we live in an age today where that scene would have started a mob in front of movie theaters.
It is a little silly but in such a cool way it is hard to deny this Rio Bravo style thriller was probably the inspiration behind another classic (diehard). This is also a buddy movie in a way delivering one of the coolest all time exchanges.
“Do i save the two bullets for us?…”
“No save them for the first two assholes who come out of that vent.”
The soundtrack delivered by John Carpenters here is easily his best. This is a diamond in the rough, a hidden jem. Nope they don’t make them like this anymore that’s for sure.
