When I first saw these movies, I felt moved to an excellent level because how great they were. Though there are many other films that I have seen that I completely respect with a massive level, I still believe that these films tower over those ten-fold.
So, with this introduction out of the way and the film Avatar knocked off of my list because I am over that craving for the movie, I present to you all my opinion on the 10 Best Movies of All Time.
***********************************************************************
10. Crash (Paul Haggis) – The film centers around racism in Los Angeles, many different kinds of people coming together to find themselves, and end up finding the okay securities and problems of the world. The movie rightfully won Best Picture, and is one of the most impacting films I have ever seen.
9. Sunshine (Danny Boyle) – A sci-fi classic with one of the most heard and best scores of all time, Sunshine is an amazing movie with one of the best twists in movie history.
8. American History X (Tony Kaye) – The film is one of the most racial and intellectual films ever, and has a fantastic performance from Edward Norton.
7. The Wrestler (Darren Aronofsky) – One of the best endings of all time, and quite possibly one of the best roles of all time for Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler is one of the most fantastic journeys anyone can ever go on. A must-see.
6. Pulp Fiction (Quentin Tarantino) – A hands down classic that everyone should see once.
5. Brick (Rian Johnson) – Jordan Gordon-Levitt, that little dweeb from “3rd Rock From the Sun” is a man now, and he is one of the most skilled actors in Hollywood. This is one of the best detective films ever, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to see a great noir film.
4. Moon (Duncan Jones) – This is a no brainer. Sam Rockwell gives the greatest performance of all time in this film. The effects were good (though the budget was $5 million), and David Bowie’s son directed it.
3. Requiem for a Dream (Darren Aronofsky) – This is the most depressing and yet amazing movies ever. From one of the greatest directors ever comes the story of drug addiction, family, and some of the worst things imaginable in life happening.
2. Forrest Gump (Robert Zemeckis) – One of the most dramatic, funny, and well-scored films of all time, Forrest Gump shows that Robert Zemeckis is the man… though all of his other movies have been par at best (Yes, Back to the Future, even you).
1. The Departed (Martin Scorsese) – The greatest film ever. It is very impacting as a film, and, in my eyes, is a perfect film with no flaws besides Leonardo Dicaprio, whom I do not like… though in this movie he was perfect.
Honorable Mentions:
-“Titanic”(James Cameron, 1997): The plot was great, the acting was superb, & the scene when the ship breaks in half & goes upward before heading down is simply breathtaking.
-“Being John Malkovich”(Spike Jonze, 1999): The plot was very dark, yet very original & very innovative. Cameron Diaz toned down her good looks for this film, we were introduced to a very sexual Catherine Keener as well as a bearded John Cusack, & a crazy man named John Malkovich.
-“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (Michel Gondry, 2004): For some reason, Jim Carrey decided to ditch his slapstick/screwball comedy persona & go with a more serious path. It’s a shame he didn’t win an Academy Award for this performance as this movie proves that he can act.
Great list. My list would include Shawshank Redemption, One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Silence of the Lambs, Rainman. I’m with you both on Crash and Titanic.
yes, being john malkovich was great, and so was Titanic. Eternal Sunshine was really not as good, to me, as The Science of Sleep. Both of you, though have good additions.
I’m not sure I can agree with a lot of your list. The Departed is seriously your choice for Scorsese’s best? What about Goodfellas, Casino, Taxi Driver, or Gangs of New York? I do agree with what you said about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Jim Carrey is a capable actor, but it seems people aren’t too keen on him trying this. See the response for The Majestic.
oh, I loved the Majestic, but that was because the story was to the point and beautifully crafted. Carrey did beautifully as a dramatic actor in that one. But yes, the Departed, to me is the perfect movie, man. It was just so damn awesome. I loved Gangs of New York, but it wasn’t as good (no real reason, it just wasn’t), and Goodfellas was just not as good, though it was great (the other two don’t even compare, though I give mad props to Taxi Driver and Casino).
I like this list…absolutely loved American History X, one of the better performances of our time.
I agree with adding Titanic
What about American Beauty?
I would also put What’s eating Gilbert Grape in my honorable mention list
p.s. how do you not like Leo????
Yes, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape was good, and so was American Beauty, bot they’re not quite top 10 material in my mind. And I don’t like Leo because he is the Coca-Cola of film. His ass is in EVERYTHING. He is over-added, and I just don’t think that he is a good badass, except for the Departed where he actually did very good, along with Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and ESPECIALLY Mark Wahlberg. It really depends on the role with my relationship with DiCaprio’s characters. I’m dead set on seeing Inception and think that it’ll be the best film of the year (though it is only because of the director, Christopher Nolan) and I also saw Shutter Island (once again, because of the director, Martin Scorsese) and I just think that Leo is good, but not good enough to do certain things. If you noticed in Shutter Island, he had a Boston accent one scene and didn’t the next.
