From the opening credits until the closing credits Baby Driver grabs your attention and does not stop. Edgar Wright, who is known for directing such movies as: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Hot Fuzz, and Shaun of the Dead directs the film and it delivers in every way imaginable.

Baby (Ansel Elgort) plays a getaway driver who works for Doc (Kevin Spacey). Baby wears headphones and listens to music from his iPod because when he was younger he got into a car accident and has a permanent ringing in his ear. The music helps him drown out the ringing and plays an important role in the movie as the music drives the film. Through flashbacks we see that Baby’s mother was in an abusive relationship with the father. The reason Baby gets into the car crash as a child was a result of the parents arguing and not paying attention to the road.
Baby wants to do one more job for Doc and be done with driving. Doc calls Baby, so he agrees to drive. Baby meets the crew that is put together and plans are discussed for the heist the next morning. Fast forward to morning and they get the money and escape, led by Baby’s flawless driving skills.

We meet Debora (Lily James) who works at a diner that Baby frequents. We find out that Baby’s mother use to work at the same diner. Baby is love struck by Debora. They both go to the laundromat and talk and listen to music all night. The chemistry between the two characters is great.

Debora and Baby go out on a date to a fancy restaurant. The bill is picked up by Doc, Baby’s former boss. Doc corners Baby into driving again by threatening to hurt him and his new girl. Throughout the movie we can see that Baby does not want to do this anymore for a living. He wants to make honest money, but protect the ones he cares about. Doc shows Baby the next job, the United States Postal Service. Doc wants blank money orders and trade them in for cash. There are many boxes of the money orders and each box is worth roughly $250,000.

We meet characters along the way that are part of Doc’s heist team. Griff (Jon Bernthal), Buddy (Jon Hamm) and Darling (Eiza Gonzalez) are some of the people that Doc assemble together to rob different places. Bats (Jamie Foxx) is a crazy junkie robber who is the craziest of the bunch. The characters all have different personalities so it makes for a fun watch when seeing them interact. All the actors do a great job of playing the robbers especially Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. Every actor is on point in the movie which leads to the success of this film.
Baby wants to drive away from his old life and start a new one with Debora. Can Baby make this last hit and be done with his life as a getaway driver? Can him and Debora start a life together? The last half of the movie plays out with action and suspense. You are always wondering what is going to happen next which really leaves you invested in this movie.

Ansel Elgort is perfect for the role of Baby. He does not have a whole lot of dialogue in the movie but when he talks, it is important. He shines in this movie and I believe it is one of the top movies of 2017. The movie grabs you and does not let go. The chemistry between Baby and Debora on the screen works and you are always rooting for them. The action is great and the getaway car driving leaves you with sweaty palms when you are watching. The comedic scenes in the movie are great too. I loved everything about this movie and it will be on my top ten list of 2017. Go see this movie!
